2023 FATE SCHOLARS
The FATE Scholar Programme (FSP) is a FATE Giving initiative. The programme aims to support and enable innovative and entrepreneurial students seeking admission to pursue an undergraduate degree in any STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) course in any accredited public tertiary institution in Nigeria for the 2024-2025 Academic year.
Meet the 2023/2024 Scholar
DARAMFON OBODOM
Daramfon Obodom, a driven first-year Medical Laboratory Science student at the University of Uyo, embarks on a journey not just of academic excellence, but of positive impact.
She is motivated by the chance to create a better tomorrow for herself and her community, through researching neglected tropical diseases or developing innovative diagnostic tools.
Currently, she is exploring entrepreneurial ventures in the beauty and fashion industries, with a focus on developing sustainable and innovative products, developing skills in cosmetics formulation, particularly lip gloss and lip balm making alongside fashion design. This venture allows me to combine my creativity with my passion for business and sustainability.
Daramfon strives to empower individuals, especially those facing marginalization. This sense of purpose pushes her to excel in all she does.
GRACE FADEJIN
Grace Oluwaseun Fadejin is dedicated Agricultural administration student at the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAAB). Grace is aspiring to become a catalyst for positive change in her society with a focus on the agricultural sector.
Grace is strongly committed to pursuing excellence in her studies, focusing on integrating cutting-edge technology and data-driven solutions into agricultural practices. Her ultimate goal is to leverage these innovations to optimize resource utilization, enhance productivity, and drive sustainable growth in the agricultural sector.
Beyond her academic endeavors, she is currently volunteering as an operations manager for Good Deeds Donation Hub Africa, a non governmental organization that advocates for an equitable future for all and focuses on providing and supporting vulnerable communities and individuals with basic amenities(Clothing items , Books, Home Appliances, Gadgets)As well as educating people on the benefits of decluttering and donating their gently used items instead of burning or trashing them.
Grace is continually motivated by the opportunity to solve real-world challenges through innovation and entrepreneurship. She believes that the intersection of these fields holds the key to addressing some of the most pressing issues faced by the agricultural industry today
ADEWALE AMOKE CELINE
Adewale Amoke Celine, a vibrant first-year Pharmacology student at Osun State University whose unwavering dedication is poised to make a significant and redefining impact on the Nigerian healthcare landscape.
As a FATE Scholar, Celine is determined to navigate her academic path with her sights set on a coveted goal: independent research into drug mechanisms. With a steadfast resolve, she endeavors to excel academically, fueled by the desire to instigate positive transformation within the healthcare sphere.
Beyond her academic pursuits, she has volunteered for a non-governmental organization catering to the needs of visually impaired and disabled individuals in Lagos, Julby Health Concern Initiative (JHCI), where she contributed as the media director and a member of the welfare committee. This experience has allowed her to give back to her community and set future goals for making a positive impact. She also participated in programs such as Daystar Leadership Academy (DLA) and BE-MINT, where she gained hands-on experience with STEM skills and had the opportunity to participate in my first internship experience.
Outside of her studies, she is an avid reader and trivia fan. Whether it’s enjoying an eye-opening documentary or spending quality time with my family and pets, these activities help her maintain a well-rounded life and bring fresh perspectives to her academics.
AWOYEMI COVENANT
Awoyemi Covenant is a dedicated nursing student with a fervent passion for advocating for the health and well-being of children and teenagers. Her unwavering commitment to this cause drives her academic pursuits and professional aspirations.
Her ultimate goal is to become a prominent health advocate, focusing on ensuring that young individuals receive the care and support they deserve. Covenant’s academic aspirations revolve around acquiring the necessary knowledge and skills to make a meaningful impact in the field of healthcare. She is motivated by the opportunity to positively influence the lives of others, especially those who are most vulnerable.
Before commencing her university education, Covenant completed a six-month training program in front-end web design, this experience not only equipped her with valuable technical skills but also sparked her interest in merging technology with healthcare to innovate and improve patient care.
Covenant is also an entrepreneur, running a business where she sells jewelry and ornaments. Her business acumen and creativity have allowed her to balance her academic pursuits with her entrepreneurial endeavors, showcasing her versatility and drive.
ABDULRAZAQ IYIOLA
Abdulrazaq Iyiola is a dynamic 20-year-old who is deeply passionate about the synergy of design and technology, fueled by personal experiences that have shaped his purpose and his fervent determination to reshape medical diagnostics through his current pursuit of a Biochemistry degree at the University of Lagos.
With a plethora of design research projects to his credit, Abdulrazaq’s innovative spirit has earned him recognition across local, national, and international platforms, highlighting his steadfast commitment to confronting global healthcare challenges head-on using design and technology as a tool.
Beyond academia, Abdulrazaq’s plays a pivotal role in a social enterprise, harnessing his expertise in UX/UI design, graphic design, and content creation to champion Sustainable Development Goals and empower tech enthusiasts worldwide. His dedication to ethical AI and user behavior underscores his mission to shape a responsible technological future. Carrying the moniker of “A Blessing During the Days of Our Lives,” Abdool is resolute in his quest to leave an enduring impact on the healthcare technology landscape, driven by resilience, innovation, and compassion.
FATIHA AROGUNDADE
Fatiha is a medical student at the University of Lagos, Lagos State. She has a deep desire to serve others and create positive change in the community. Her ultimate goal is to leverage her medical expertise to improve the lives and well-being of others.
She’s a firm believer in the power of education and mentorship, being a FATE Scholar. will connect her with a network of inspiring individuals and provide invaluable guidance that will prepare her for a successful career in medicine.
Fatiha is eager to contribute her skills and knowledge to the healthcare sector and play a role in building a more equitable and healthy future for all.
EMMANUEL OMOARUKHE
Emmanuel Omoarukhe is an aspiring Computer Scientist at the University of Benin. Shaped by personal experiences and teaching that help him build a strong work ethic and a refusal to make excuses, Emmanuel has his education prioritized as a pathway to being a agent of change for his family, community, and society.
His passion for exploring computers and coding led him to choose Computer Science as his field of study. He aims to use his skills to address real-world challenges such as cyber fraud and contribute to advancements in the field. Emmanuel is a certified Affiliate Marketer, who is also currently taking up courses on software development and video animation.
Additionally, he was a member of the Junior Chambers International (JCI), UNIBEN Chapter, Emmanuel is the Director of Operations at the SEAD Tech Hub, UNIBEN where I supervise the activities of the group which was founded with the sole aim of increasing female participation in Tech careers.
OLUWAFERANMI OLOYE
Oluwaferanmi Oloye, a dynamic and passionate medical student of Lagos State University. Hailing from Owo, Ondo State, he brings a fervent dedication to his studies and a commitment to making a difference in the field of medicine.
Oluwaferanmi’s primary focus lies in obstetrics and gynecology, driven by his desire to contribute to the advancement of the Nigerian health sector. He is inspired by the challenges people face with their bodies and looks up to renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson as a guiding figure in his journey.
He consistently strives to put his best foot forward, aiming for excellence in his academic pursuits while also embracing the lessons learned from his community involvement. His association with the FATE community has been profoundly impactful, providing him with opportunities for growth and personal development. He views his journey as one of continuous learning.
HAMAD KAMORUDEEN
Hamad Kamorudeen, a passionate student of Actuarial Science on a journey fueled by curiosity and determination. His personal goal is to harness the power of data and mathematical models to mitigate financial risks and create solutions that positively impact society. Academically, he aspires to excel in his studies, pursue professional certifications, and contribute to advancements in the field of actuarial science.
He is constantly motivated by the opportunity to apply his analytical skills to real-world problems. Confident in his work, he aspires to help individuals and organizations make informed decisions and secure their financial futures.
Hammad is currently a Cowryrise campus ambassador and ATC Africa. Also, I’m an alumni of The Stellar Academy, an academy that focuses on the boy child. If he is not reading, he is mostly learning data analysis which is an important field in his career,.
Currently, he is learning data analysis under a few tech companies like Techub Academy, Utiva and IBT Learning Africa.
As a FATE Scholar, his experience has been nothing short of amazing and he is excited about the privilege of participating in mentorship programs, collaborating with peers from diverse backgrounds, and engaging in community service initiatives that have reinforced his strong commitment to making a difference through his academic and professional pursuits.
FORTUNE UCHEGBU
Fortune Uchegbu, a focused and ambitious individual with a zeal for technology. From a young age, he maintained a significant dedication to academic excellence and self-development, resulting in his endeavors towards extracurricular skill development like programming and software design.
As a scholar, he aspires to excel and contribute significantly in his chosen field of study Electrical and Electronics Engineering which he is pursuing at the University of Lagos. His motivation stems from his family and the awareness that, with proper support, numerous accomplishments are within reach in the technological space.
He has a passion for tech which began March 2023, when he started learning web development. From learning the basics of how the web works and the tools that make it work, to replicating and creating amazing and functional websites, he has been learning to put his skills to design and create programs and applications that are uniquely tailored to create solutions to problems in his space.
Being a FATE Scholar has been a transformative experience for Fortune. This scholarship has not only granted financial support but also enhanced his academic journey and paved the way for many opportunities in him in his chosen field of study.
